Micayla Maternity Session + Why Choose a Lifestyle Session?

Micayla and Kameron are about to welcome their 2nd baby and it was my honor to spend the morning documenting this special time for them.

I had such a wonderful time getting to know these three. And I was thrilled to walk into their space and see such wonderful light. They did a great job being themselves and letting those natural moments happen.

If you’ve been considering a similar lifestyle session, you absolutely should! And I’ll tell you why:

#1 - You don’t have to leave your home!

This is an obvious perk. It’s especially great for newborn sessions which have to take place shortly after baby is born. Leaving your nest for 3-4 hours is the last thing you’re going to feel like doing. With an in-home session, we can feed, change diapers, resettle baby, stop for snacks etc. all in the comfort of your own space. It’s a nice option to have during those first few weeks when you kind of feel like you’ve been run over by a truck (physically and mentally) and yet have a tiny new human to keep alive.

# 2 - Big siblings are more comfortable at home

They will often hang with us longer and cooperate better. Bringing baby home is an event for everyone involved. Big brothers and sisters are going through something huge! Keeping the session at home, where they are in familiar territory with their own toys etc. can help the session go more smoothly for them and involve less stress for you. When you book your session, I have some advice in my prep guide for setting us up for success, both with your newborn and your toddler (if you have one).

# 3 - This place is special to you.

The nursery you lovingly prepared, the kitchen you eat your family meals in, the home you brought your baby into; these rooms will be the backdrop for your session. It’s nice to have those visual reminders of a space that meant so much, especially if you end up moving. Memories fade so much faster than you think!

#4 - Weather becomes irrelevant!

As a Kenosha photographer, weather can control the timing of a lot of my shoots, at this time of year in particular. There’s always that possibility that we will need to reschedule due to nasty weather. During the months of December through March it’s pretty unlikely that we’re going to get a warm enough day to even make the attempt. Schedule a session in the comfort of your home and you never need to even check the forecast!

Next up I’ll be doing a post answering some of the frequently asked questions I get about this type of session. So check back in!
